Mbinga District Commanding Police officer (OCD), Mr. Zabron Masanja(55) has passed away in a road accident that occured on wednesday night at 3am.
The Ruvuma Regional Police Commander(RPC) Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP) michael Kamuhanda confirmed the death to the 'Daily News' by phone yesterday, saying Mr. Masanja died while on the night duty patrol.
According to RPC Kamuhanda, the late Masanja was on his way back from the patrol when a motorcyclee with registration number PT 1249 he was riding slipped at the corner close to the junction of Mbinga- Mbamba Bay Road near St. Augustine School.
"The road was slippery due to the current heavy rains, he had helmet that apparently fell down" he said.
The RPC said the police were still investigating other possible causes of SP Masanja's death due to the fact that the scene had no sharp objects like stones which could have hit him as he fell down.
"The deceased was found with 17,000.00Tshs and a mobile phone" the RPC said.
